For the first time in PA Turnpike history, a female has been named the Turnpike Chair. PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards of Whitemarsh was officially appointed the chair of the Pennsylvania Turnpike this past Tuesday.

The approval for Richards’s new position came during a bi-monthly meeting consisting of a five-member panel.

“The first Turnpike commissioners were appointed in the spring of 1937, accomplishing a milestone like this in an organization that was started more than 80 years ago is undoubtedly historic. I’d like to thank my fellow commissioners for the faith they have shown in me,” said Richards.
